【摘要】:ThispracticeisusedtocalibratetheJamesMachinefordeterminationofstaticcoefficientoffrictionofpolishsurfacesinaccordancewithTestMethodD2047.OverconsiderabletimeandrepeatedusetheJamesMachinemaytendtomechanicalmisalignment,givingself-evident,anomalousreadings.Theperiodicaccumulationandcomparisonofdatageneratedbythispracticeprovidesanindicationofwhenthemachineisnolongerwithinthecalibrationlimitsandcannolongerbeexpectedtoprovideaccurateandreliabledata.Semi-automatedJamesmachinesmayperformaninternalcalibration/alignmenttest.Theseautomatedtestsshouldberoutinelyrunperthemanufacturerrsquo;recommendation.Iftherepeatabilitytestsofthispracticeindicatethatthemachineisoutofcalibration,themanufacturershouldbecontactedandhissuggestionsfollowed.Unqualifieddisassembly,modification,oradjustmentmayvoidtheinstrumentwarranty.1.1ThispracticecoversthetestingoftheJamesMachineforrepeatabilityofstaticcoefficientoffriction,relativetoastandardreferenceinterfaceconsistingoftheworkingsurfacesofBorcoboardandstandardleathershoesolematerial,oracontrolpolishfilmandstandardleathershoematerial.ThepracticeprovidesbasisdataonthestabilityoftheJamesMachinetoensureaccuratestaticcoefficientoffrictiondeterminationsovertimeandrepeateduseandfordeterminingiftheJamesMachineismechanicallycalibratedandproperlyaligned.1.2ThispracticeiswrittenspecificallyforJamesMachineswithmanualormotorizedtesttabletransport.VariationsofthispracticeforthecalibrationofversionsofJamesMachineswhicharesemi-automatedareobvious.Calibrationpracticessuggestedbythemanufacturerofsemi-automaticJamesMachinesshouldbefollowedinpreferencetothispractice.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
